Happy 30th Birthday, Jason!

May 7, 2012

Today, dear boy, you are 30 years old. At all of 30 (whether that’s a lot or a little, the jury is still out) you have touched us so.

To your family, undoubtedly, you are a child of deep character and constant tinkering with engines and toy tractors, a boy of hard labor and great promise, a young man of bold risk and adventure moving to far-off places and taking on far-off jobs. And now, you are a man who has stepped into his role as a farmer’s son and grandson to help in carrying on the family tradition.

To your friends, you are at times quiet and gentle, at times side-wrenchingly hilarious. You are their personal farmer, often their personal party DJ and indie music consultant, at times their personal mechanic, and occasionally their personal tech consultant. You sear a mean burger and steak, and you always know just the appropriate ridiculous YouTube video to share at a dinner party.

To your customers in the shop, you offer a welcoming smile and a listening ear. You offer the expertise and knowledge handed down to you coupled with a fine-tuned ability to troubleshoot circles around the best of them.  You carry on the name of Bowman Brothers as you serve your local farming community.

To your herds and flocks, you are their caretaker, their fixer-of-fence, their grinder-of-feed and maker-of-hay. You wield a gentle hand and a calming voice.

To your dog, you are faithful, to your cat, your big arms are a welcomed respite.

And to your wife, well, what can I say? To your wife, you are beautiful. At 30, you amaze me as much as you did at 17. The man you have become and are becoming is steadfast, faithful, secure. Your mischievous grin still makes my heart flutter, and your incredible abilities and love of the earth still holds me in awe of you.

Happy 30th Birthday, Jason. We Love You.

Your family, your friends, your customers, your herds and flocks, your dog, your cat, and of course, your wife.

PS…we’ve noticed that you really like plaid. Let’s see if that sticks for the next 10 years, and outlives the BKLYN Hipster fad…

Happy 30th Jason! You have indeed touched many lives–mine included. I’m thankful for the time we shared in NYC, and for what God is doing through you in these days. Blessings to you, have an awesome day, rejoice in the wife of your youth–and get your hands dirty a few extra times this week for this city slicker who’s looking longingly at these pics of you guys working the land in God’s country. Vanessa, the girls, and I are anxious to visit!

Happy Birthday, Jason! We miss you here in the neighborhood. We would tell you that we’re having Shake Shack in your honor today . . . but we don’t want to make you jealous. So just know you are fondly remembered, and greatly missed. Many happy returns. Love and blessings from the Strickmans: Scott, Kathy, Noah, Orli, and Asaph.

HAPPY 30TH, JAS! I had to laugh when I read Harrigan’s ode to you from your friends because it is SO TRUE! You are quiet and gentle, but when the true Jason emerges, you are side-wrenchingly hilarious. I’ll never forget when you stayed up with the girls at Matt & Becky’s wedding and had us rolling over the Majorca story. You are one special dude–super smart, a whole lot of common sense, intuitive, loyal, curious, a man of his word…and you got serious style too. We love you!! Have an awesome day celebrating 30 years of LIFE.

Yay Jason, welcome to the 30s! It’s the best decade. Now you can do whatever you want. Also, I hear people get handsomer and smarter and more fit in their 30s, by magic. So enjoy, and have a wonderful day with your lovely family!

Happy birthday Mr. Bowman! I know a lot of people are mentioning Shake Shack, but I do have to say I associate that place with you and your birthday. It’s the only time I’ll wait in that crazy long line! Wish you were here to celebrate. I haven’t had a shake in a long time! Jonas, Rhone, Lilah and I wish you the best 30th and send you, Harrigan (and all the animals) lots of love.

P.S. You wear that plaid well. Keep it up.

    Dear Jason,

Happy birthday!!!! I was just going to write about how great it is to be thirty … But then this morning, while waiting for the bus, I found my first gray hair. The whole long ugly thing would not come out of my head! So, thirty is great, but watch for those grays! I hope you have a wonderful birthday 🙂

Dad and I were remembering your “birth” day this morning. How much you mean to both of us! Words cannot express ……….. You are a considerate, caring son, a strong big brother, a loving husband, a gentle uncle, a dependable farmer, a community leader, and I could go on. Years have passed so quickly. Dream big and live life fully. Love you!

Jason, Happy 30th!!! I can’t believe it was a year ago that David and I joined you for an outdoor feast to celebrate 29–amazing how fast a year can go! I’ve enjoyed getting to know you and always, always LOVE coming to your place to visit and relax. Too bad we had to move and miss out on seeing you all as much. =( Well, I have to say (being a whole year your senior) the 30’s aren’t bad. You get a few more grey hairs (and maybe a few more pounds) but still have plenty of energy to feel mighty youthful. Praying for DELIGHT for you in the coming year. with love, Anita (for David and Atticus too!)

Hey Brother! I don’t know when 30 went from seemly like such a distant impossibility, to a reality, but apparently that happened. You made it! Here is another fun fact: 2 awesome records are on their way to you. Harrigan can listen to them as well! Happy Birthday.
